When configuring the security of your organization, one of your key focuses should be on password length. The longer a password is, the more difficult it will be for malicious actors to guess it. Upon creating a new user in your ThreatLocker organization, you are required to insert a password with a minimum of 8 characters. With the addition of this Agent Setting, ThreatLocker allows you to raise the required password length whenever a user changes or creates a password for their account.
Note: No other password requirements will be changed, this Agent Setting will only affect your minimum password length. You cannot make the minimum password length less than 8 characters.
To apply the Minimum Password Length Agent Setting, navigate to the 'Agent Settings' page and select the '+ New Setting' button in the top left corner of the page. Once the 'Create Settings' sidebar opens, use the 'Setting Type' dropdown to select the 'Minimum Password Length' option.
Ensure that the 'Applies To' section has 'Entire Organization' selected. This is the default selection, and this Agent Setting will not work if any other option is chosen.
Once the 'Setting Type' has been selected, the 'Parameters' section will populate with a checkbox labeled 'Use Minimum Password Length'. If this checkbox is not selected, the password length will default to a minimum of 8 characters.
When you select this checkbox, you will have the option to increase the minimum required password length in your organization. You can input any number that is greater than or equal to the default requirement of 8 characters.
Once you have inserted your desired Minimum Password Length, select the 'Create' button found at the bottom of the page. Select the 'Update Agents' button at the top of the page after this is done.
Now, you will be able to see this change in your ThreatLocker organization. To view this change, navigate to the 'Users' page and select an existing user or create a new one. From the 'Create User' or 'Edit User' side panel, navigate to the 'Username / Password' section and either change or create a new password. Once you begin typing in this field, ThreatLocker will populate a list of default requirements for password complexity. Your new minimum password length requirement will appear here.
