Merging application definitions is a means of transferring the definitions contained inside one or more applications into one application. To demonstrate this process, we are choosing to merge three applications that are all related to Adobe. These applications are similar, and in order to consolidate the amount of applications in the organization, we will be merging all three of them together. Once these applications are merged, a single application will remain containing all file rules and hashes of each original application definition prior to the merge. There is logic built-in to prevent duplicate rules from being created.
Note: Built-In definitions cannot be merged into your custom applications as they are managed by ThreatLocker.
Having multiple applications with the same or similar names can make it more difficult to identify what applications are permitted in your environment. Merging applications where applicable can improve the simplicity and efficiency of your environment, so it is important to perform this type of maintenance regularly.
How to Merge Applications
First, select the checkbox next to the application(s) that you want to merge into one application. In this example, we will merge three custom applications related to Adobe. First, select the applications you want to merge from your list of applications. Once your applications have been selected, choose the 'Merge Applications' button above the application list.
A popup menu will now open, showing you a list of all applications you selected. From here, select the application you would like to merge all your selections into. For this example, we will be merging all of our chosen applications into the 'Adobe' custom application. In the popup menu, select the application name, then select the 'Merge' button at the bottom.
Once the 'Merge' button has been selected, all of the Application Files for each selected application will be merged into the application you selected. The other applications you have chosen will no longer be individual custom applications that appear within your organization.
The three applications have now been successfully merged as there is only one custom application in the organization called 'Adobe'.
